Videos are a great way to share “how to” information. YouTube is great for finding this type of video whether your quest is a home improvement project, learning to play the guitar, or even how to upgrade your Micro Motion RFT9739 transmitter to the multi-variable digital (MVD) technology. The last example may have been a rather abrupt transition, but I think it shows an extremely effective use of YouTube in a business-to-business environment.

Emerson’s Camille Stauffer, a technical writer for the Micro Motion family of Coriolis flow and density measurement products, shows the steps required to perform this upgrade in a three-part video series–each under 3 minutes in length. These videos are not demo videos to show the diagnostic benefits associated with the MVD technology (which I highlighted in an earlier post.) Instead, they are made for a technician who will be doing the upgrade. And because the videos are in YouTube, they can be viewed from a PC or mobile device.

For anyone who has assembled home items by referring to a manual, you know that ambiguity is often something through which you must battle. Seeing someone do the assembly on video is usually much clearer. In the case of the RFT9739 transmitter, the video supplements the installation manual.

Here are the three parts of the 9739 MVD Electronics Module Installation video series:

The Micro Motion Online Community continues to grow in membership and participation. How-to videos like these from Camille and team will continue to give people reasons to come back, ask questions, and share their expertise.

Also, if your IT organization is still holding out and blocking YouTube access from your plant or office, hopefully these videos add more reasons to help you in the quest to get YouTube and other valuable social media-related sites unblocked.
