Major-Chu-Emerson-Flow-Blog.jpgI’d like to extend a welcome to one of Emerson’s newest bloggers, Major Chu. His Emerson Flow blog is written in the Chinese language. Major is a member of the Micro Motion Coriolis flow and density measurement team and currently working in Emerson Flow Asia Pacific as the senior business development manager responsible for alternative fuels. Major is also a frequent contributor to the Micro Motion Online Community.

Through the magic of Google Translate, I read a rough translation of one of Major’s recent posts, Micro Motion mass flow meter LNG solution. – Micro Motion Coriolis Solution on Cryogenic LNG Measurement.

He makes six major points in the post starting with the performance characteristics for Coriolis mass flow meters. Next, regarding the challenges for liquefied natural gas (LNG) measurements, Major notes that mass flow through the flow, temperature, density, and particularly the drive gain diagnostic via MODBUS in Micro Motion mass flow meters, accurately control and determine the single-phase measurement. His third point is the verification of the measurements. Fourth, the flow measurement strictly follows international standards and traceability, including:

  • OIML R 105 (1993) Direct mass flow measurement for quantities of liquids
  • OIML R 117 (1995) Measuring systems for liquids other than water
  • OIML R 81 (1998) Dynamic measuring devices and systems for cryogenic liquids
  • ISO 10790 (1999) Measurement of fluid flow in closed conditions – guidance to the selection, installation and use of Coriolis meters (mass flow, density and volume flow measurement.) Includes cryogenic fluids like LNG
  • API Chapter 5.6 (2002) Measurement of liquid hydrocarbons by Coriolis meters to the manual of petroleum measurement standards. Includes dense phase fluids like ethylene, NGL, LPG and LNG
  • API accepted Coriolis meters for wellhead measurement (allocation measurement – API MPMS 20.1).
  • AGA 11 measurement of natural gas by Coriolis meters
  • API MPMS measurement of single-phase, intermediate and finished hydrocarbon fluids by Coriolis meters
  • ASME MFC-11M measurement of fluid flow by means of Coriolis mass flowmeters

Major shares industry application certifications such as NMi mass flow meter for high-potential applications in the LNG certification. He closes the post with pictures and a listing of successful LNG applications in China.

I’ve added a right side link to Major’s blog in case you want to read his blog in Chinese or use a translation service such as Google Translate. Or, you can follow some of his English posts over on his Micro Motion community blog.
