For manufacturing and production processes that require steam service, safety valves are essential for safe operations. Direct spring safety valves for steam generators are used in boiler steam drum service, superheater outlets, and reheater applications.
The Crosby H-Series Style HCI ISOFLEX Direct Spring Safety Valve is designed for 300 to 3100psig (21 to 214 barg) applications. This 5:18 YouTube video, Crosby HCI Boiler Safety Valve, shows a 3D animation for the Crosby HCI Boiler Safety Relief Valve, a Section I and Section VIII ASME-rated pressure relief valve.
The animation shows how the safety relief valve opens as the process variable approaches the safety setpoint and is fully open by a few percent beyond the setpoint. The animation includes the operation of internal safety valve components, including the guide, disc holder, guide ring, disc, nozzle ring, and nozzle.
ASME Section 1 requires no more than 4% blowdown. Simmer is minimized by raising the nozzle ring to bring it closer to the face of the disc holder. Raising the guide ring reduces the reactive pressures against the disc holder and reduces blowdown.
