Emerson Delivers A Process Gas Analytical Solution for the World’s Largest Blue Ammonia Plant

by | Oct 16, 2025 | Chemical, Measurement Instrumentation | 0 comments

Emerson recently delivered a fully engineered analyzer house solution to support gas analysis applications at the world’s largest blue ammonia facility, setting a new benchmark for integration, performance, project certainty, and customer collaboration.

Tackling Complexity with Confidence

As the global energy landscape shifts toward low-carbon innovation, precision and reliability in process analytics have never been more critical and this project presented a unique set of challenges to remedy these issues. For instance, the facility required continuous, high-precision monitoring of multiple gas streams, there was an inability to retrofit new technologies into an existing infrastructure due to several constraints, and the region’s climate made an HVAC system a necessity to maintain operable conditions.

“This was a project to build the world’s largest blue ammonia plant, with this facility expected to produce 1.2 million tonnes of blue ammonia annually. This project represents a significant step toward reducing global carbon emissions.” — Emerson Project Engineer

A Solution Built for Performance

Emerson’s response was a comprehensive analyzer package tailored to meet the plant’s rigorous analytical, environmental, and operational requirements. At the heart of the solution is a 21-meter analyzer house, the largest ever constructed by Cluj MSS, featuring 13 analyzers including our Rosemount™ PGA, QCL, and Gas Chromatographs.

The full scope of supply included:

  • A fully equipped analyzer house
  • 23 primary and secondary sample conditioning systems
  • HVAC system for climate control
  • Additional field measurements mounted externally
  • Metering cabinet with two gas chromatographs (GCs)

Internally, the analyzer house was divided into four specialized compartments:

Throughout the project, Emerson’s team worked closely with the customer to ensure every detail was aligned with operational needs and long-term performance goals.

“I would like to express my sincere appreciation for the efforts, dedication, professionalism, and preparation demonstrated by the entire Emerson team.” — Project Stakeholder

“I particularly value the care, engagement, and openness shown in understanding our requirements and striving to deliver the best solutions. A notable example is the thoughtful mechanism developed for handling the gas chromatograph cover. “— Project Stakeholder

Driving Toward a Sustainable Future

This project is more than a technical achievement, but also a model for future low-carbon facilities. By enabling precise gas analysis in a demanding environment, Emerson’s measurement engineered solutions are helping to drive the transition toward cleaner and smarter industrial processes.
