Most people only consider Coriolis meters as a high accuracy mass flow measurement device. What most people overlook, however, is that Micro Motion Coriolis technology delivers an array of additional measurements. Within a single device, you now have the ability to measure multiple process variables, including; mass flow, density, process temperature, case temperature and device drive gain. In this post we discuss how you can combine these measurements to deliver new insights and process improvements.

Figure 1: Micro Motion Coriolis Meters Offer Multivariable Measurement Capability

Figure 1 lists the multivariable capability of Micro Motion Coriolis technology. Combining these measurements can deliver new insights into the meter health or process conditions. For example, we combine process flow rate with drive gain to alert you if there is entrained gas in your process. Or, we can use temperature measurement to compensate for changes in measured fluid density to improve process stability. Looking beyond mass flow, Micro Motion combines data to deliver new insights into your process. These insights give you the tools to improve production, reduce cost and improve safety.

Before now, all of this data was lost and underutilized. Now, with the introduction of the 5700 transmitter on our ELITE Coriolis offering, customer have the ability to mine this valuable data stored in the on-board historian. With the 5700, you now have another tool to help troubleshooting and identify process upsets.

The challenge with multivariable capability is data overload. Most customers do not have the time, interest, or infrastructure to manage the full capabilities of a Coriolis transmitter. This is why Micro Motion is focusing on developing ways to help customers easily leverage and integrate the information they need, when they need it. For example, using human center design principles and advanced analytics into our products to deliver contextually relevant information. With growth of the Internet of Things (IoT) and Big Data, customers have unprecedented access to the infrastructure necessary to leverage the full capabilities of Micro Motion Coriolis technology.

Innovation around customer needs drives Micro Motion to deliver new ways to simplify customers’ access to relevant information; enabling you to make quick, effective decisions.
