Emerson is once again leading the way into new territory with an exciting new development. While gas lift valves are nothing new, the launch of the Adaptive Gas Lift System (AGLS) marks a bold leap forward. This isn’t just another gas lift valve. AGLS brings unmatched control and advanced performance, making it a standout innovation for operators looking to accelerate and maximize oil production.
In the oil and gas industry, gas lift stands out as a widely adopted artificial lift method. Injecting gas into the production tubing reduces the hydrostatic pressure against the formation, thus enabling unloading and start-up of the well. This arrangement is typically optimized for the conditions of early production. But how does this perform over time, as production reduces? Traditional gas lift systems have limited manipulation capabilities to re-optimize the arrangement and conditions by which the injection valves open and close. This invariably results in lower oil production with costly well interventions.
How do operators optimize production at any given time, as conditions change?
This is where Emerson comes in. In collaboration with Interwell, we are proud to announce the launch of the Adaptive Gas Lift System, which is a unique, low power, electrically actuated gas lift valve. Operators can now adjust choke openings to optimize gas injection rates and depths directly from the control room.
Let’s take a closer look at some of the standout benefits this innovative solution brings to operators compared to conventional systems.
Enhanced Control and Increased Oil Recovery
The valve settings can be changed as often as the operator needs, making small adjustments, to ensure continuous production optimization. The operator can open and close valves as needed. For example, close a higher valve location and open a deeper injection point. How does this help operators? The Adaptive Gas Lift System enhances operator control significantly.
Why does this level of control matter, I hear you ask? Well, it allows operators to efficiently optimize production, in turn increasing and maintaining oil yield continuously. This supports operators’ ability to increase total reservoir drainage, enhancing well profitability throughout the lifetime of the well.
Safety and Reliability
Safety and reliability are understandably a priority for operators. The AGLS utilizes field-proven technology qualified to the highest industry standards. It incorporates the strengths and experience of both Emerson and Interwell. The Emerson’s Roxar downhole portfolio brings expertise in power and communications capabilities, proving to be robust and reliable over time, while Interwell’s gas injection valves are similarly known for their reliable performance.
The Adaptive Gas Lift System is the world’s first retrievable electric gas lift system. In case of unforeseen challenges or failures, the unique retrievable design of AGLS allows for the complete replacement of entire valve assemblies using standard wireline techniques, without the need for costly workover operations.
Intervention Avoidance
As mentioned, traditional gas lift systems have limited manipulation capabilities. This means that typically, to make changes, an expensive shut-in intervention is required, to enable physical changes to be made. The ability to remotely make changes with the Adaptive Gas Lift System simplifies this process significantly, not to mention, avoids the need for expensive manual interventions.
