If you’re not in the offshore oil & gas industry, it may be just another week. If you are, you probably know that the Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) is going on this week in Houston, Texas. From the OTC website, this conference is described:

…the world’s foremost event for the development of offshore resources in the fields of drilling, exploration, production, and environmental protection… Each year, OTC attracts more than 65,000 attendees and 2,000 exhibiting companies representing more than 110 countries.

The Emerson team is all around OTC this week, highlighting many solutions from reservoir through transmission for offshore oil & gas producers, including:

  • Fiscal Systems Management
  • Operational Safety and Critical Asset Monitoring
  • Subsea and Reservoir Management
  • Wellhead Management
  • Collaboration Center / Control Room

I asked some of the team to send me highlights that I could pass along to you.

Daniel 3812 liquid ultrasonic flow meterGerard Hwang pointed me to a new Rosemount 3812 liquid ultrasonic flow meter that is suitable for a wide range of applications in the petrochemical, oil, water, and wastewater industries. Integrated diagnostics make the flow meter more reliable and less sensitive to changes in flow profile, solids, or entrained air. In an earlier ultrasonic flow measurement post, I highlighted the principals of operation with this technology.

In the exhibition hall, the Emerson booth is #5541. Emerson’s Rich Pratt shared with me that there was high interest in the integration between the CSI 6500 Machinery Health Manager and the DeltaV system because it brings equipment control and protection together for platform operators.

Candra Morrow shared that they put together a video showing a Rosemount 648 wireless temperature transmitter with an RTD pipe clamp sensor. I’ll be keeping an eye on the Rosemount Measurement YouTube channel for this video.

Wireless communications is an important technology for oil and gas producers. In the booth, Greg Huey is showing wellhead monitoring. The demonstration shows wireless pressure, temperature and flow measurement and how these are integrated into a ROC 800 remote operations controller and a FloBoss 107 flow manager.

Tom Brandau showed a Fisher Easy-Drive electric actuator, which will be available this summer for oil and gas upstream applications. These Easy-Drive actuators will be mounted on Fisher D3 dump valves.

Dennis Lingo let me know that he’s showing a 12-inch Coriolis Meter on display that is used for continuous measurement of mass, volume and density of drilling fluids.

If you want to peek in on the OTC conference through the social media channels, follow the official OTC Twitter account, OTCHouston and the Twitter search, #OTC2011. I’ll also keep you posted on updates I get from the team.

Update: Here’s a better OTC Twitter search which shows the many variations of hashtags being used by the attendees and followers.
