The news is out today of Emerson’s opening of a new flow loop facility, in Stavanger, Norway. This facility is part of the Roxar brand of products and services which serve the oil & gas industry with advanced technology for production optimization, production consistency and decision support.
We’ve addressed some of these technologies in earlier posts—technologies such as subsea pressure & temperature measurement, real-time well testing, reservoir management and reservoir properties modeling to name a few.
From the news release:
Well testing has historically been performed with test separators to get the oil, gas, and basic sediment and water cuts. The Roxar multiphase meter performs this function in both multiphase and wet gas modes. It identifies and measures non-symmetrical flow, in varying flow regimes, and with that information, improves measurement uncertainty and reliability of the producing well. The new facility will increase production capacity and drive future developments in multiphase meters, enabling oil and gas operators to access continuous well and flow rate information and derive maximum reservoir performance from their multiphase meters and production data.
The purpose-built facility is designed to replicate three-phase flows in oil and gas production and will play a key role in ensuring that Emerson continues to support its oil and gas customers by delivering reliable and accurate topside and subsea flow meters that operate across all reservoir conditions over the lifetime of a well.
The flow loop facility mixes diesel, salted tap water and nitrogen to simulate the multiphase flow coming out of oil and gas production wells. The Roxar multiphase meter provides integrated measurement for pressure, differential pressure and temperature. Micro Motion Coriolis meters provide reference measurements and a DeltaV system is used to control and operate the flow loop and log data from the reference instrumentation and the multiphase meters being tested.
