Emerson Process Management’s President Steve Sonnenberg delivered a keynote presentation to the Emerson Exchange Düsseldorf meeting today to kickoff the 3-day meeting. This is the first Emerson Exchange meeting for the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) region. More than 1000 attendees joined this maiden voyage.

He discussed the growth globally in terms of expertise and service centers, as well as overall financial performance. One example is the Marshalltown Innovation Center where customer flow control applications can be simulated and fully tested.

From a technology standpoint, Steve shared some announcements such as DeltaV intrinsically safe electronically marshalled I/O. I’ll share some of the other announcements as the week unfolds.

A key part of Steve’s talk was about trust. Trust is something must be earned on a daily basis and can be lost quickly. Actions can be wasted without trust. A key tenet of building trust is keeping promises. Steve highlighted focused efforts in the supply chain to build multiple suppliers and locations to meet commitments when natural disasters impact manufacturing sites.

Steve asked for a show of hands of whom had attended a prior Emerson Exchange event. About half the room raised their hands, and he invited those who hadn’t to connect with those who had for ways to get the most out of the event. Next year, these folks will have wisdom to offer other new attendees. And members of the Emerson Exchange 365 community can share their thoughts and ideas with the new members who join this week.
