Scalable Software Architecture for Exactly What You Need

Each of our customers has their own unique requirements. That’s why we’ve built a tiered system into the Roxar Rapid Adaptive Measurement™ software, so you can choose exactly the level of functionality that best suits the needs of your operation. Our Roxar Rapid Adaptive Measurement™ Core features and functionalities is the standard software included with all meters from the factory. We are going to explore the range of capabilities in our Core offering here. In later blogs, we wll be talking about what is available in the advanced tiers of Roxar Rapid Adaptive Measurement™ for the Roxar 2600 Multiphase Flow Meter.

Parallel Computation 

Roxar Rapid Adaptive Measurement™ conducts parallel computation with multiple calculation modules by utilizing synchronized sensor signals. Computing with multiple modules continuously enables the software to find the most accurate module for the flow conditions in that moment. It will automatically select the most suitable module as your flow conditions change, leaving you with more confidence in your data. Full flow calculations are performed at a speed of 10 Hz, ensuring even the most rapid of changes are captured and reflected within meter outputs and offering new insights into your production profile.

One Mode

Building onto this software platform structure and benefits, we offer One Mode. This means the meter remains in one mode for the full 0-100% gas volume fraction (GVF) spectrum. Your meter no longer needs to switch between a multiphase mode and wet gas mode with a different GVF range for each. One Mode covers the full range, realizing a more robust measurement output, even in a more wet gas-type flow. This is achieved by use of the modular software structure. The introduction of modules specific to the high GVF area support seamless continuous measurement throughout the GVF range. We have also improved our annularity modelling for high gas fraction environments, further strengthening meter performance and the robustness of results.

Adaptive Density Measurement 

With our extensive install base, we are experiencing more and more wells with higher and higher gas fractions around the world and these applications present additional challenges to measurement instrumentation. Our customers need accurate measurements of their oil and water, but when the flow contains mid to high GVFs, you need extreme sensitivity in your measurement instrument to pick up on the small changes in liquid density you’re expecting. To address these demanding applications, we have developed adaptive density measurement into our Core capabilities. Modules that operate in mid to high GVFs have an increased averaging time on the gamma density measurement to provide enhanced stability of results. We also use added averaging time for density measurements in very high GVF modules as part of One Mode. This functionality ensures incredibly stable, reliable, and robust results in higher GVF environments.

Alarms and Diagnostics 

The Core feature includes standard alarms and diagnostics available through the Modbus registers and in the calibration and configuration tool. These alarms will immediately alert operators to any upsets or failures in the multiphase flow meter hardware and sensors. They will also flag instances when the meter is working outside of its operating range. For example, if it falls outside the operating range for differential pressure, an alarm will automatically notify the operator.  If, for example, this is due to the flow conditions consistently being lower than the operating range of the meter, it can be resolved by replacing the venturi sleeve with a smaller beta ratio, increasing the dP and ensuring the meter continues to operate within range. Diagnostics within the software assure you that everything is working exactly as it should be. If something isn’t, you have an early indication of any actions that need to be taken to ensure the meter continues to relay the best possible results.

Embedded PVT 

You no longer need to rely on separate software to calculate pressure, volume, and temperature (PVT) tables. Now, there is an embedded PVT engine within the flow computer of the multiphase flow meter. It contains two equations of state and two property libraries. If you prefer your calculations, we can apply your equations of state as well. Previously, because the calculations weren’t happening within the flow computer, flow conditions could occur outside the PVT tables’ range. With an embedded PVT engine, the software performs a seamless recalculation within the meter. Streamlining these analytics facilitates the enhanced capacity to tackle the true scope of these shifting multiphase flows.
