Proven RFID technology has been widely used in supply chain applications and has now found application in the manufacturing and production industries. I highlighted how it being used to better plan and streamline valve maintenance in a post, Improving Valve Maintenance and Planning with RFID Technology.

This RFID technology is now also available for pressure relief valves (PRVs). In this quick, 2:36 YouTube video, Asset Management Tags (RFID) on Pressure Relief Valves, Emerson’s Marcelo Dultra discusses how these asset management tags help improve performance in maintenance and operations.

These physical tags require no power source and scanned with an RFID scanner. Quickly accessing information from the PRVs can help reduce troubleshooting, downtime and excessive time searching for device information. When integrated with maintenance management systems, reading the tag can begin the process to trigger a work order to streamline the maintenance process.

Also with PRVs located in many hard to reach locations, the RFID tags can be read from a safe location and navigate to device instruction manuals, MSDS sheets, maintenance schedules, service histories, and P&ID drawings. Easy access to this information helps streamline lifecycle management for the PRVs.
